Ransom Canyon, based on the book series by Jodi Thomas, stole our hearts when Season 1 premiered on Netflix back in April 2025, with its enticing combination of Yellowstone-esque ranch drama and romantic melodrama. But the story wasn’t anywhere close to being over when we got to the end of the first season, considering we were greeted by multiple different cliffhangers involving our lead lovers Staten Kirkland (Josh Duhamel) and Quinn O’Grady (Minka Kelly). Fortunately, the series was so popular that it didn’t take Netflix long to renew it for a second season.

Showrunner April Bair, the cast, and crew have been hard at work on Season 2 for a while now, so Ransom Canyon is coming back sooner than you think. And thanks to a considerable info dump from Netflix, we know a decent amount about what to expect from Season 2. Let’s dive in.

Ransom Canyon Season 2 release date

All episodes of Ransom Canyon Season 2 will drop on Netflix on July 23, 2026. That will be just over a year after the first season premiered, which was on April 17, 2025.

Ransom Canyon Season 2 cast changes

A pair of key cast members in main roles — Eoin Macken and Andrew Liner, who play Davis Collins and his son Reid — won’t be back for Season 2, according to Deadline. No explanation was given for their exit, which is kind of a big deal since they ran the Bar W Ranch right next to the Kirklands’ Double K, and Davis was competing with Staten for Quinn’s affections in Season 1. There’ll presumably be some major plot reasons for this shift, but clearly that love triangle is over. It’s unclear if the duo will wrap up their stories as guest stars or their departures will be handled off screen.

New cast members for Ransom Canyon Season 2

Former Oscar nominee Patricia Clarkson is joining the cast in Season 2 as Quinn’s momma Claire, while Steve Howey is joining as Staten’s half-brother Levi, and Heidi Engerman will play Yancy’s mysterious wife who popped up suddenly at the end of Season 1. Ben Robson is also joining the cast for Season 2. Aside from Macken and Liner departing, you can expect most of the other major characters who survived until the end of Season 1 to pop back up in Season 2.

Potential storylines for Ransom Canyon Season 2

The Ransom Canyon book series by Jodi Thomas is an anthology, meaning each novel focuses on different folks around Crossroads, TX, rather than being one single story. So unlike with, for example, The Lincoln Lawyer, we can’t say that Season 2 of Ransom Canyon will be an adaptation of any particular book in the series. But there are some major elements from the first book — which focuses on Staten and Quinn — that haven’t been used yet. But we’ll look at those details after checking out the plot synopsis from Netflix.

There are potential major spoilers for Season 2 of Ransom Canyon beyond this point.

“Season 2 begins six months after the events of the first season, with rancher Staten fighting to reclaim his legacy after being unseated as trustee of his family’s Double K Ranch. Meanwhile, musician Quinn must decide if her heart truly belongs in the small town she once tried to outrun or in the fast-paced world of New York City. Are the pair star-crossed lovers, or fated to be together?”

In the book, Quinn had spent time in New York before the story began — and she was sexually assaulted by one of her fellow musicians during her time there, which was the main reason she returned to her hometown. Then, a little bit later in the story, her attacker actually shows up in Ransom Canyon. Since it’s very possible that the series will adapt this part of Quinn’s story in Season 2, be warned it might include some tough content that will be triggering to some folks.

On top of the main romance between Staten and Quinn, we’ve also got Yancy’s big cliffhanger to deal with — after getting engaged to Ellie, a woman comes out of nowhere claiming to be Yancy’s wife. This little storyline isn’t in the books at all, so anything can happen there. But it’s worth pointing out here that Yancy and Ellie don’t stay together very long in the books. In the fourth book, Yancy ends up falling for a woman he finds in his attic, some time after he and Ellie broke up.

And, of course, the fact that Davis and Reid seemingly won’t be back is a potentially major development, since Davis was both Staten’s rival both in business and in love in Season 1. Their absences will certainly be a topic for the residents of Crossroads to gossip about, no doubt.
