Carrie Underwood is “living the dream” as the mother of her two young sons, Isaiah and Jacob. The country music star, who is one of the best-selling musicians of all time, is raising her boys alongside her husband, the retired pro ice hockey player Mike Fisher. The couple met in 2008, got engaged in 2009, and tied the knot in 2010.

“I feel like he is the person I was meant to be with,” Underwood once told People. “I had dated guys and kind of knew, like, ‘No.’ Nothing was ever really wrong, but nothing was really right either. With him, it was like a good partnership. It was an easy relationship to be in.”

The duo were married for five years before welcoming their first son, Isaiah, in 2015. Little brother Jacob followed in 2019. Parenthood was an adjustment: “I remember when we first found out we were gonna have him [Isaiah], it [was] like, ‘How are we gonna do this? Our lives are so crazy as it is,” Underwood recalled. The Grammy Award-winning singer added that the family’s “whole life had changed” with the arrival of baby number one.

As for baby number two? Jacob is Underwood’s “little miracle.” The American Idol alum was open with fans about her pregnancy struggles, including three miscarriages, which she said forced her to “get real with God.”

In 2020, Underwood took the pandemic as an opportunity to soak up quality time with her two children.

“It’s been really great to just really get to know them and watch them grow—especially Jake,” she told the hosts of Today “It’s such a critical time in his life and I’m never gonna get it back. So we’re just trying to enjoy it.”

Here’s everything you should know about Carrie Underwood’s two kids, Isaiah and Jacob.

Underwood and Fisher’s firstborn son arrived on February 27, 2015. He was born in Tennessee. The “Remind Me” singer announced his birth by sharing a close-up photo of his hand on Instagram.

“Tiny hands and tiny feet…God has blessed us with an amazing gift! Isaiah Michael Fisher – born on February 27,” she wrote in the caption. “Welcome to the world, sweet angel.”

Isaiah has spent chunks of his childhood on tour with his mother. In 2019, Underwood shared that he had earned the nickname “The Mayor of Catering” during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. “He’s such a people guy,” she added. “So he’s living the dream.”

In 2020, the mother-son duo joined forces in the recording studio. Isaiah sang a cameo on Underwood’s track “Little Drummer Boy,” which appeared on her first-ever Christmas album, My Gift.

“It was so great,” Underwood later told People. “I was laughing, and I was crying, and it was just very overwhelming in a good way. It’s just very emotional.”

Isaiah has also followed in his dad’s athletic footsteps. He made his “baseball debut” in 2021, which Underwood made sure to celebrate on Instagram. “I got more nervous watching him than I used to get when I watched his daddy play hockey!” She joked.

In 2022, Underwood opened up about how her son is slowly coming to terms with her fame.

“I feel like, Isaiah, who’s seven and a half, he’s becoming more aware that it’s not normal,” she told the hosts of Today. “He’ll go to school and someone will be like, ‘I saw your mom on TV last night.’ He’s just becoming more aware that his mom does something that’s not normal.”

Isaiah’s little brother was born on January 21, 2019. Underwood once again took to Instagram to announce the new baby’s arrival.

“Jacob Bryan Fisher entered the world in the wee hours of the morning on Monday…his mom, dad and big brother couldn’t be happier for God to trust them with taking care of this little miracle,” she wrote. “Our hearts are full, our eyes are tired and our lives are forever changed. Life is good…”

The mom-of-two’s “miracle” baby arrived following three miscarriages. Underwood had previously opened up about her pregnancy struggles in a 2020 interview with Women’s Health. “For my body to not be doing something it was ‘supposed to do’ was a tough pill to swallow,” she told the magazine. “It reminded me I’m not in control of everything.”

Underwood added that the miscarriages “made me get real with God and say, ‘Okay, I’m kind of giving up a little bit. If this isn’t meant to happen, then I need to accept that and know that someday I’ll understand why.’”

When Jacob turned two, Underwood called her son “an incredible blessing from God.” Celebrating his birthday on Instagram, she wrote, “We longed for you. We prayed for you. We walked a long, hard road in order to one day hold you.”

The Some Hearts singer also acknowledged that the age gap between her two sons wasn’t planned. “We initially in our lives kind of wanted our kids a little closer in age,” she told People. “That didn’t happen because God has a different plan sometimes.”
