As the search continues for a missing Michigan mom believed to have gone overboard in the Bahamas, her family is pushing for answers — and sharing more insight into what the woman’s daughter called her volatile relationship with her husband and what he allegedly said after she vanished.

“It just doesn’t add up,” Karli Aylesworth told Fox & Friends of the disappearance of her mother, Lynette Hooker, on Saturday, April 4.

Police have said Hooker vanished over the weekend; they’ve been looking for her ever since.

She and husband Brian Hooker departed Hope Town, in the Bahamas, on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. local time on a small dinghy to make their way to Elbow Cay, Brian later reported to the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

Lynette, 55, reportedly fell overboard with the boat keys, leaving Brian, 58, to paddle back to shore to alert authorities early on Sunday, police said in a statement.

“Strong currents … carried [Lynette] away, and [Brian] lost sight of her,” police said.

Speaking with PEOPLE on Tuesday, April 7, Richard Cook, team leader with the Hope Town Volunteer Fire and Rescue, said officials “don’t suspect foul play at the moment.”

“It was just a lot of bad decisions,” he continued. “Night time, very windy, no moon out yet, so it was pitch dark and very rough conditions for the small boat they were in.”

While Cook said that efforts have shifted to a recovery operation — and the U.S. Coast Guard has also joined in the search — Bahamas police say they continue to look for Lynette and investigate her disappearance.

In her interview with Fox & Friends, Aylesworth, 28, shared her concerns about her stepfather’s recollection of events, including that he reportedly told authorities he saw her swimming for shore, too.

“My mom is very fit and strong. She’s a good swimmer,” Aylesworth said. “Like, why was she swimming away from the boat? Why did she have the key? It just … the story just does not make sense to me.”

Aylesworth said that Brian had allegedly been violent with Lynette in the past and threatened “to throw her overboard,” according to Fox & Friends.

In a separate interview with NBC News, Aylesworth said that the couple had a “history of not getting along, especially when they drink.”

Aylesworth told CBS that her mom and Brian had previously broken up and gotten back together.

Lynette’s husband has not been accused of wrongdoing; a review of public records did not show any past domestic violence charges against him.

In a statement previously shared with PEOPLE, Aylesworth said she has been “privy to very little information” about the investigation so far. She emphasized that her “sole concern is to find out what happened to my mother and make sure a full and complete investigation is performed into her disappearance.”

She also claimed that “there have been prior issues brought to my attention, which may be important for any thorough investigation,” although she did not elaborate.

In a statement on social media on Wednesday, April 8, Brian said he was devastated over what happened to his wife.

“I am heartbroken over the recent boat accident in unpredictable seas and high winds that caused my beloved Lynette to fall from our small dinghy near Elbow Cay in the Bahamas,” he wrote. “Despite desperate attempts to reach her, the winds and currents drove us further apart. We continue to search for her and that is my sole focus.”

The couple, from Onsted, spent years sailing together, even posting about their travels on social media as “the sailing hookers,” according to CNN.

After Lynette disappeared, Cook told the outlet that she was not wearing a personal flotation device.

Aylesworth told CBS that Brian left her a voicemail to inform her that authorities had discovered a flotation device that he threw to Lynette when she fell in the water.

“Hello, honey, it’s Dad. I just got a call from Hope Town Search and Rescue, and they found the flotation device that I threw to Mom when she fell overboard,” he said in the voicemail, which Aylesworth showed CBS.

For both Aylesworth and her grandmother Darlene Hamlett, there are just too many questions and too few answers. They’ve reached out to Bahamian officials for more clarity.

“We have many unanswered questions,” Hamlett, Lynette’s mother, told CNN. “Our family is still in shock. We are still holding on for a positive outcome to this tragedy.”
