‘The Road’ Star Reveals What It Was Like Working With Keith Urban Amid Marital Woes: ‘He Definitely Pushed Personal Stuff Aside’
It’s no secret that Keith Urban is a professional, whether he’s onstage singing and playing his guitar or working on an entirely different project. Even when things get messy in his personal life, the country music superstar, 57, stays the path and remains focused on the work at hand.
Such was the case when he was filming for his latest role on CBS’s The Road while going through a split from award-winning actress Nicole Kidman.
According to one contestant on the reality competition series, per an article shared by PEOPLE, Urban didn’t let on that his relationship with Kidman, 58, was crumbling. Instead, the “Blue Ain’t Your Color” hitmaker stood primarily on business and didn’t give off any indication that something might be going on in his private life.
“You wouldn’t even know that he was going through anything because he definitely pushed personal stuff aside and was business professional the entire time,” The Road hopeful Billie Jo Jones, 38, said, according to the outlet, which sourced Daily Mail. “[That’s] what a true artist should be and should be doing.”
News of Urban and Kidman’s separation circulated online on Sept. 29, 2025, one day before the Babygirl actress filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The split follows 19 years of marriage between the two celebrities, who tied the knot in 2006. Urban and Kidman share two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14, with Kidman now serving as the primary residential parent per the custody agreement.
Keith Urban Talked About Touring Life on the Season Premiere of The Road
Although Urban won’t have his daughters as much as Kidman will, during the series premiere of The Road, he shared how being on the road and away from family has greatly impacted his life.
He said, “When you wake up on a tour bus at 3:30 a.m. and you’re sick as a dog, you’re in the middle of nowhere and you’ve got to play your fifth show later that night, and you haven’t slept, and you miss your friends, and you’re missing your family, and you’re completely lonely and miserable and sick — and you say to yourself, ‘Why am I doing this?’ The only answer can be: ‘Because this is what I’m born to do.’”
Jones sees that side of Urban’s personality in full force.
“He is one of those people who really wants the best for you and really pushes you to be your best self,” she explained of the four-time Entertainer of the Year.
