Morticia looking at Wednesday, who faces away from the camera, in Wednesday

The ending of Wednesday season 2 teased the series’ next villain, and this character could be just what we need to solve an Addams Family change.

The last we saw of Wednesday in the finale of season 2, she was headed off with Uncle Fester to hunt down Enid (in her werewolf form). This was, naturally, a pretty thrilling launching point for season 3, but that’s far from the end of it. We also caught a glimpse of Ophelia Frump locked in Hester’s basement. We didn’t see this character’s face, so we aren’t sure which actor has been cast, but there’s some opportunity here.

Catherine Zeta-Jones Can Play Both Morticia & Ophelia In Wednesday Season 3

Morticia Addams

The Ophelia tease was a great way to end Wednesday season 2, especially since the bloody words stating that Wednesday must die indicate that Morticia’s sister will be an antagonist. Then there is the fact that we didn’t see Ophelia’s face. It feels like a hint that whoever portrays this character will be a fun surprise for viewers, and I think I have a good idea of who it will be.

In the Addams Family sitcom series from the 1960s, Ophelia Frump was played by Carolyn Jones, the same actor who played Morticia Addams.

In the Addams Family sitcom series from the 1960s, Ophelia Frump was played by Carolyn Jones, the same actor who played Morticia Addams. It would be fitting, not to mention a lot of fun, if Wednesday were to continue the trend by having Catherine Zeta-Jones play both Morticia and Ophelia in Wednesday season 3. Moreover, this would add to the show’s unique mother-daughter dynamic.

Ophelia’s Casting Can Pay Off Wednesday’s Strained Mother-Daughter Dynamic

Ophelia writes Wednesday Must Die in blood on the wall in Wednesday season 2 part 2

Wednesday did something pretty risky right from the get-go, and it has been the center of some criticism. In more typical Addams Family adaptations, Morticia is a loving mother, but she generally leaves Wednesday to behave however she pleases. In turn, Wednesday shows her mother unending respect and appreciation (in her own way). Wednesday completely changed this dynamic.

In the Netflix series, Morticia is an overbearing, protective mother, and Wednesday is a slightly more typical rebellious teenager. Their strained relationship has been at the center of Wednesday for two seasons now, and this change hasn’t been everyone’s cup of tea. However, if Zeta-Jones were to play a villainous version of Ophelia, the shift could be entirely worth it.

We are used to seeing Morticia full of adoration for Wednesday. However, it looks as if Ophelia will be on a mission to kill her niece. Seeing these two characters with drastically different intentions for Wednesday share the same face would add a brand new layer of intrigue to this story. Of course, it could never happen without the unique mother-daughter relationship that Wednesday has established.
