An American Idol judge canceled two shows after refunding fans when their voice gave out during a concert.

According to Country LivingAmerican Idol judge Luke Bryan shared an Instagram story in which he announced that, due to illness, his June 20 concert in Dallas will be postponed until September 12 and his June 21 show in Lafayette will now take place on September 11. Luke’s Country Song Came On tour is currently on a scheduled break, and will resume on July 10.

This announcement came after Luke stopped his June 19 concert at the Walmart AMP in Rogers, Arkansas to inform fans that he’d be refunding the audience because he was unhappy with his performanceCountry Living reported that several fans had shared videos on TikTok, which showed Luke having vocal issues during the show.

Luke admitted to the crowd that he was struggling, which was something that had happened in that venue before, and that he was going to do something that he’d seen country singer Luke Combs do when he was in a similar situation. He said, “I’m gonna get real with y’all. This is the weirdest thing I’ve ever dealt with in my life. I cannot have my voice in this venue for some reason. It happens every time. I don’t know why.”

Luke continued, “But, you guys keep showing up year after year to see me put on a show. You know, I saw Luke Combs do this a couple years ago when he was having a weird night on stage. And I said, ‘You know what, that’s pretty cool.’”

Luke went on to announce that he would be refunding fans their money, but continuing on with the concert anyway. He said, “You know what? I don’t give a damn. I’m going to refund everybody their tickets tonight, and we’re going to keep doing the damn show, okay? We’re just gonna make this what it is. I don’t know why I do this every time, but y’all can hear, so we’re gonna make the most of it. Let’s do it.”

It’s refreshing to hear that Luke wanted to refund fans for his concert when he felt that his vocals weren’t at their best. He spoke to his fans honestly, and he let them know exactly what was going on. Luke treated his fans like his own family or friends, and he knew that giving back the money would make him feel better about his voice giving out during the concert.

As an American Idol fan since season 1, I’ve always thought that Luke was one of the kindest and most down-to-Earth judges, and just an all-around good guy. This incredible gesture to his fans proved me right. I’m glad that Luke is everything that I thought he was in real life. He’s a great role model for the American Idol contestants, and he’s setting a wonderful example for all artists. I look forward to watching him again during American Idol season 24.
