euphoria HBO

You may be aware, if you have access to a social media feed, that a new season of Euphoria is currently airing. The teens of Euphoria High – we’re sure the school has a name but it seems redundant at this point – have all grown up and are now dealing with the tribulations of adult life.

That’s right. Rue (Zendaya) is currently working in a strip club and navigating the drug overlords of California, Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) is an aspiring OnlyFans model, Nate (Jacob Elordi) is managing his father’s construction company, Jules (Hunter Schafer) is a sugar baby in downtown Los Angeles. Maddy (Alexa Demie) is doing her own thing and might just take over the world.

It is safe to say that there is some controversy around this new season, but would you think it could go any other way with provocateur Sam Levinson at the helm? We’re currently two episodes in, and you can check out the release schedule here. And while the critical rating isn’t at an all-time high (42% on Rotten Tomatoes), it’s safe to say that it’s pulling in the viewers for HBO.

Per Variety, the season 3 premiere attracted the eyeballs of 8.5 million curious Americans in the first three days of availability, which is a 44% increase from the second season premiere in 2022. That’s what happens when you have some of the biggest movie stars on the planet in your television show.

So you might expect a fourth season would be all but inevitable. And yet. Speaking to Variety, Levinson said that he treats “every season like it’s the last season” and there are no “no plans” for another one. And when Zendaya appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show earlier this month, she was asked by the host whether this will be the last season.

“I think so, yeah,” Zendaya said, before repeating that answer when asked again.

Along with the tragic deaths of two cast members – Angus Cloud and Eric Dane – that makes a new season altogether harder. We’ll keep you updated with any further news.
